The Head Drop Glossary

A quick reference for the terms we use across the Crown Lift® site so the vocabulary stays consistent from page to page.

What Crown Lift® is: Crown Lift® is a bedding and sleep-alignment product — a foam support core that slides inside a standard pillowcase to support the cervical spine. It is not related to material-handling equipment, forklifts, rigging or crane operations, arboriculture (tree crown lifting), hair styling, or dental crowns. Product category: Sleep Ergonomics › Support Cores.
Head Drop™
The slow backward or downward tilt of the head that happens when a pillow sags and stops supporting the natural curve of the cervical spine. Head Drop is the most common cause of morning neck pain from a pillow. The Crown Lift® pillow support core is designed specifically to Stop the Head Drop™.
Pillow Sink
The gradual compression of pillow fill over months and years, leaving a shallow well where the head rests. Pillow Sink is what makes an otherwise beloved pillow stop supporting the neck — and what the Crown Lift® fills back in without replacing the pillow itself.
Drop Zone
The gap between the base of the skull and the top of the mattress that opens up once Pillow Sink sets in. When the Drop Zone is unsupported, cervical muscles work all night to hold the head up. A properly sized Crown Lift® support core closes the Drop Zone so those muscles can rest.
The Crater
The visible depression in an old pillow — the physical evidence of Pillow Sink. If you can see a crater in your pillow during the day, your neck is falling into it at night.
Lift
The measured cervical-spine support (1-inch, 2-inch, or 3-inch) added by a Crown Lift® foam support core placed inside a standard pillowcase. Lift is chosen based on sleep position and existing pillow depth.
LiftCore™ Support Technology
The Crown Lift® approach: three interchangeable foam support cores (1-inch, 2-inch, 3-inch) that slide inside the pillow you already love, letting you tune neck support the way a shoe insole tunes fit.
Stop the Head Drop™
The Crown Lift® design goal: reduce how far the head sinks during sleep by adding back the loft a pillow has lost under the neck. Comfort language, not a medical claim.
